Although we have always felt that to have a separate Bow Section could be counter-productive, we have been encouraged to present a list of bows generally stocked. These lists are strictly indicative of the stock, and please, we cannot guarantee that we will always have them all in stock. What we have always suggested, is that if you are wanting to purchase a Bow, firstly try to come and visit us, and try out as many as you like, but if that is not an option, we can always post out bows. You will need to advise us of your price range, and any specific requirements (eg round or octagonal stick), and we will select FOUR and send them for your approval for a period of 10 days. There is NO OBLIGATION TO PURCHASE, NOR DO WE CHARGE FOR THE SERVICE. We send out the bows in specific bow boxes by Royal Mail Special Delivery (Special 12), and this is how they must be returned. You are responsible for their safe keeping whilst in your charge. Whilst we do not charge for the service, for our own security, our Insurers insist that you supply a valid Card Number, and of course you must have a UK postal address for us to send it to. Whilst we can of course send to work addresses, we must have your home address also. We have of course included a guide to assist you in selecting your bow price range. This really is only for information, and to enable you to budget, you might find that the bow that works for you is much less expensive than you expected. Always be prepared to be surprised! Bows supplied on an Approval are strictly supplied for the purpose of selecting a new bow. We do not offer to loan bows, except under special circumstances, at our discretion. We are currently not stocking Master Maker bows, as they need to be kept in a controlled environment, and we are unconvinced of the value of a move in this direction. To Compliment our Instrument Repair and Valuation service, we also undertake a Bow Repair and Rehair service is offered, please apply for prices. Please note that Instrument and bow repairs are, in the main undertaken by our Luthiers in their fully equipped workshops at home. This enables us to offer a comprehensive service, at a much lower price than if we had an `in house' workshop. |

| CHOOSING THE RIGHT BOW.
Most teachers and retailers agree that the best way to match the performance of a bow to your instrument, is to purchase a bow between 1/3 to 1/4 of the value of the instrument. This is by no means fully comprehensive, as you may wish to consider upgrading your bow beyond the instruments capabilities in order to prepare for an instrument upgrade later. The Table below will give an indication of achievable grade with the various bow price ranges. Carbon Fibre Bows seem to have reached the pinnacle of their design phase, menaing that Bows from all manufacturers are not being upgraded with new models every few months. This does mean that they now represent a serious alternative to Pernambuco, in that they will not become obsolete, and thus loose value in the same way that they did in the past. We are not holding huge stocks of Carbon Fibre bows, to ensure that we always do have the latest models, and as supply has greatly improved, this does not seem to be presenting a problem. The low World stocks of Pernambuco, which as it is considered to be at risk, and thus on the C.I.T.E.S. register, is causing huge Price Hikes in Pernambuco stick bows. This was always going to happen, although I don't believe maybe anyone realised by how much. If considering buying a Pernambuco bow, you need to address it quickly. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A ROUGH GUIDE. bowing technique. It is a slotted plastic tubular device that clips easily onto the bridge/fingerboard and guides the bow at 90 ° to the strings.
